A STRONG turn-out of 370 pupils from 12 schools took part in the South Lakes Schools Cross Country event held on Birkrigg Common, near Ulverston. Eight different age groups competed and, despite rather bleak weather, they appeared to enjoy the challenge of the relatively difficult course.

ATHLETES from Kendal AAC were jubilant after their last match in Bury, where they achieved promotion to the first division of the Young Athletes League (Northern West.) The team of 35 athletes, aged 11 to 16, represented the club in four matches over the course of the season, piling up a massive 1935 points.
