Romeo television chef Jean Christophe Novelli (pictured left) has heaped praise on Cumbria as a destination for romance and good food.

Novelli, one of the world's top chefs, has written the introduction to Cumbria Tourist Board's new Holiday and Short Breaks Guide 2006. He said: "If you love good food (I confess I do) Cumbria the Lake District has a real treat in store with a richly stocked larder bursting with meat, game, fish, fresh fruit and vegetables.

"From field to plate, fresh, local ingredients are transformed in the hands of experienced and talented chefs to provide an outstanding taste experience.

"It is here you will find a new generation of food pioneers preparing outstanding modern dishes in an environment whose beauty does not diminish with age."

The restaurateur, who appeared on TV's Hell's Kitchen, also said Cumbria was a perfect place to holiday for those in love. Naturally food and romance go hand-in-hand and never more so than here. Cumbria the Lake District has a special place in many people's hearts. Savour the food, the outdoors and the romance here save this special place for someone special in your life. Who knows, I might too!"

The guide, produced by Cumbria Tourist Board, showcases the best the county has to offer in accommodation, attractions, events and activities.

To order a free copy call the brochure line on 08705 133059 or go online to Cumbria Tourist Board's website at www.golakes.co.uk Some 300,000 copies of the Holiday Guide are distributed every year with more than a third going to tourist information centres across the country.

In addition, 180,000 guides will be snapped up by potential visitors through a major marketing campaign by Cumbria Tourist Board in newspapers, magazines and advertisements.

This year's guide has a new contemporary look and the theme of the campaign is romance with the slogan "LovetheLakes," playing a major role.
