A SPRINGTIME walk across the beautiful countryside that is home to Kendal and its surrounding villages looks set to be the first of many events aimed at uniting local parishes.

Organised by the South Kendal-Helm Team of Parishes, the Five Parishes Walk will see the residents of Kendal, Natland, Crosscrake, Old Hutton, New Hutton and Kendal don their hiking boots for a nine-mile walk across the South Lakeland countryside.

Revd Tim Evans, priest-in-charge of the Natland and Oxenhome Parish, explained that he and other representatives from each parish had been working together for some time to find ways to unite the parishes and the walk seemed like a brilliant way of doing this.

The walk, which will take place on Saturday April 19, will follow a route that meanders through the parishes and stops off at each village's church along the way.

Parishioners will set off from Kendal Parish Church at 10am and will pass through Natland at 11.15am, Crosscrake at 12.15pm and Old Hutton at 2.30pm, before arriving in New Hutton at 4pm for a light tea.

Mr Evans said: "Everybody is very welcome to come along and they just need to show up on the day. They can join us for the whole walk or meet us along the way to walk one or two sections."

For more information contact Mr Evans on 015395-60355.
