THE curious, quaint and commonplace character of the English countryside will be the focus of this year’s Kirby Lecture in Kendal next week.
The lecture –Everywhere is somewhere: An exploration of local distinctiveness- will be given by Sue Clifford the co-founder of Common Ground, an organisation that champions arts and the environment and links nature with culture.
Ms Clifford has written a number of books, including England in Particular, her latest venture, which explores the 3,000 varieties of British apples and their distinctive flavours, uses, places of origin, stories and associated customs.
Organised by Friends of the Lake District, the event takes place next Thursday (October 9) at 7.00pm at Kendal Leisure Centre on Burton Road.
Entry is free, refreshments will be provided and non-members are welcome.
