A MOTORIST was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a collision on the M6.
The incident occurred on the northbound carriageway of the motorway at around 7.20am this morning and involved a Peugeot 106 car and a HGV carrying a crane.
The driver of the Peugeot was trapped in the vehicle and after being freed, was airlifted to Royal Lancaster Infirmary with serious injuries.
All three lanes of the northbound carriageway were blocked as a result of the incident and the southbound carriageway was closed for a short time to allow the air ambulance to land.
One lane of the northbound carriageway was reopened by 10.20am but two lanes remain closed while investigators analyse the scene.
