CAMPAIGNERS have been signing a giant postcard to send to a key meeting about the future of Westmorland General Hospital on Tuesday.

Members of the NHS SOS – Save Our Services group, which has been leading the fight against plans to close the Kendal hospital to critically ill patients, created the colourful memo in lieu of a petition and have been inviting members of the public to add their names this week.

Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron, who speaks on behalf of the group, was the first to add his signature at a signing session at Kendal’s ‘Birdcage’ on Monday.

He will present the card to members of a health overview and scrutiny committee on Tuesday (July 29) when they will be asked by bosses from the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust to approve plans to push ahead with closing the Coronary Care Unit and Ward 8 at WGH next month.

Members of the public will be able to sign the postcard when it goes on show at the ‘Birdcage’ in Kendal at lunchtime today (Wednesday).
