Lakes hotel sells for close to £3.35 million

The 3-star Skelwith Bridge Hotel, near Ambleside, has been sold for a sum close to the asking price of £3.35m.
The hotel was owned by Gilpins (Skelwith Bridge) Ltd, a family-owned and run business for 45 years.
The new owner is Mel Hogarth, whose company already owns the prestigious Cave Castle Hotel and Country Club, South Cave in East Yorkshire, as well as Monk Fryston Hall Hotel, near York, which itself dates back to the 1500s.
Dating back to the late 1600s, and incorporating an old cotton mill, the Skelwith Bridge Hotel is situated at the gateway to the Langdale Valley. There are 28 en suite bedrooms, as well as public rooms that include the Talbot Bar, a true Lakeland pub in its own right.
The sale was dealt with by the Manchester office of specialist hotel agent Colliers Robert Barry.
