The Windermere Ferry service will be suspended for several hours on Wednesday, May 14th, for the annual cable change.

The ferry pulls itself along two steel cables that cross the lake bed between Ferry Nab at Bowness and Ferry House at Far Sawrey. The cables need to be changed periodically.

The morning services will stop after 9am once regular early morning ferry users have crossed the lake. There is no guarantee about how long the job will take but engineers will work as fast as possible and hope to have the ferry operating normally before 5pm.

The last ferry crossings before the service is suspended will leave Ferry Nab at 8.50am and Ferry House at 9am.

The advance signs at Plumgarths (near Kendal), Hawkshead, Sawrey, Newby Bridge and the end of the Ferry Nab Road will advise drivers of the closure whilst the service is suspended.
