People are being urged to join the search for a four-legged daytripper from the West Midlands who went missing in Morecambe Bay.

Concerns for the welfare of Amber the chocolate Labrador Retriever bitch are growing as she has not been seen since she escaped from the boot of a car on the seafront on April 15.

Amber, who is three, originates from Tipton in the West Midlands and was in a car that had stopped in Lancs for a break before the owners continued their journey to Scotland.

After eating at the KFC takeaway on the seafront, the owners went to check on Amber and she fled from the boot of the car, making her way up the seafront.

Police and the Coastguards came to assist immediately but Amber was too frightened and she was last seen in Hest Bank on April 15.

Her owner, Jackie Callow, has been forced to travel from her home to Lancs to continue the search for her beloved dog and thousands of posters and leaflets have been distributed in the area.

She is offering a cash reward for the safe return of Amber and anyone with information is urged to contact her immediately and in confidence on 0121-522-3696.

Jackie is being assisted in her search by volunteers from www.doglost.co.uk, the UK's largest organisation for lost and stolen dogs. Founded by Jayne Hayes when her own dog was stolen, the site has thousands of volunteers who receive an alert when a dog in their area goes missing.

They immediately set to work putting up posters, delivering leaflets, searching the streets, checking rescues and pounds and sharing information.

The site has recently celebrated it 6500th reunion, but still has more than 3500 dogs, including Amber, listed as lost or stolen.

"This is such a sad case, made worse by the fact Amber is so far away from home," said Jayne. "We know the local media can help us with this one and are urging anyone who has seen Amber, taken her in or knows where she is to make contact with the owners immediately.

"Anyone who wants to visit www.doglost.co.uk and join as volunteers and use Amber as their first doggie detective case are more than welcome!"

Just to update you on Amber.

I have had just one response from a lady called Janet Rawes on 01524 811223 from Halton on Lune, (she said that she had had retrievers all her life) she saw a very dark chocolate Labrador frightened and looking stressed on her drive on Friday 9th May. The neighbour’s eight year old daughter also saw her but she though she was black and wearing a red collar. Janet said that she knew all the dogs in the village, and it is only a short distance from Lancaster. I wouldn’t think that there would be many retrievers loose in Lancashire so it could possibly be her as she does look black in some lights. Can you believe that Doglost.co.uk have had their site hacked and is not in use at the moment, and the lady from petsearch in hospital with a bad back.

Regards,

Jackie
