Opening date set for South Lakeland bypass
AN eagerly awaited new road which will remove heavy traffic from two South Lakeland villages will open to all traffic on April 8, it has been confirmed.
The A590 High and Low Newton bypass, which runs 2.3 miles and is costing £35.3 million, has been under construction since summer last year.
Welcoming the opening, Vicky Hurst, of Furness Enterprise, said: "It will create a dramatic new gateway into Furness, remove thousands of vehicles a day from the villages of High and Low Newton including heavy lorries, allowing them to be transformed into traditional Lakeland Villages."
