Cycle route gets mixed reviews
TOWN councillors have expressed mixed views about plans for the Kendal Riverside Leisure Route because of concerns about traffic congestion, reports Lizzie Anderson.
Speaking at a meeting of Kendal Town Council, Coun Rob Boden - who attended the latest in a series of public consultation meetings on March 5 - briefly outlined developments in the £400,000 scheme, leading many councillors to voice objections.
A particularly controversial element of the proposal was the plan to make the southbound section of New Road into a single lane in order to accommodate the route.
Other councillors, however, including Coun Chris Hogg, Coun Keith Bracey and Mr Boden, were more supportive of the plans, which they argued would be beneficial to the town and the environment.
It was proposed that a representative of Cumbria County Council would be invited to a future council meeting to allow councillors the opportunity to find out more about the proposals and raise their concerns.
