THIS year’s damson harvest might be a disaster, but that’s not going to stop the good folk of South Lakeland staging their annual fruit-packed celebration.

Tickets are now on sale for the traditional ‘Damson Feast’ in Crosthwaite memorial hall on October 18 which has damsons bursting out of every corner of the scrummy menu.

Yes … they are last year’s damsons. But when top local chefs Steven Doherty and Nick Martin get their hands in these frozen purple beauties, you can expect some culinary magic.

Here’s the order of play … On arrival - a Cowmire Hall Damson Gin Spritzer.

To Start - Autumn Salad with Vegetarian Black Pudding & Damson Sherry Vinegar Dressing, toasted walnuts & croutons, served with foccacia bread.

The Main Course - Rich Venison Hot Pot, pickled red cabbage with damsons & buttered carrots.

The Dessert - Damson Ice Cream with Damson Compote & Shortbread.

The Cheese Board - Mrs Kirkhams unpasteurised Lancashire Cheese, damson walnut bread, oatcakes, russet apples & spiced damsons.

Coffee & Chocolates - Farrers of Kendal finest, with damson truffles.

Tickets can be now purchased by calling John Holmes on 01539-568599 or Valerie Harrison on 01539-568201 or email Michelle Partington at food@savin-hill.co.uk
