ONE of South Lakeland's leading hotels is investing up to £1 million in a programme of improvements that should pave the way for a four-star rating.
Work is already under way on a complete refurbishment of the en-suites in 48 of the 98 bedrooms at the Castle Green Hotel at Kendal.
Half of all the standard rooms and all the family, disabled and executive rooms are being upgraded, with new features including flat screen plasma televisions, in a project due to be finished by Easter.
With the hotel enjoying an 82 per cent bedroom occupancy rate, spread out across the year, plus plenty of forward bookings for weddings and conferences, it will be the early months of 2009 before the remainder of the Castle Green's rooms are upgraded.
Meanwhile, one of the hotel's banqueting rooms - the Kendal Clubroom - is to get a makeover this month, with a fresh bar; new carpets, curtains and décor; installation of air conditioning; and a new roof garden entrance.
Changes are also in the pipeline during March and April at the hotel's leisure club, including extending the changing rooms, building a new steam room, refurbishing the pool area and replacing the air conditioning system.
