A PILLION passenger from Kendal has died after the motorcycle she was riding on was in collision with a car on the A684 Sedbergh to Kendal road.

The accident happened in an area known as Brookfield, close to Hutton Park, New Hutton just after 6pm yesterday (Monday), closing the road for four hours.

A spokesmwoman for Cumbria Police said the Yamaha motorcycle, ridden by a 39-year-old man and accompanied by a 29-year-old pillion passenger, from Kendal, were travelling towards Kendal from junction 37 of the M6 when the bike was in collision with the rear offside of a Ford Focus estate, driven by a 32-year-old man, from Coventry.

The pillion passenger was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary where she later died as a result of her injuries. The motorcycle rider and car driver were uninjured.
