Women's football league moves a step closer

Women - in a league of their own FOOTBALL: A league for the area moved a step closer after representatives of women's clubs in the county met at Penrith on Monday.

Established clubs such as Windscale Ladies, Carleton Rovers and Penrith United as well as newly-formed teams from Kendal Town, Ambleside and Harraby Catholic Club (Carlisle) discussed the options for forming a new league in September.

Teams from the Under-16 County League were also keen to explore the exit routes for their players. Interested in the potential league are Whitehaven Amateurs, Ingleton and Carvetii Ladies.

The next step for all clubs who are interested in the new league is to complete the form (available on the Westmorland FA website) and return it to Helen Aitchison before April 18.

Any females aged 16 and over can play in the league. Clubs are hoping to recruit more players to get ready for the new season. If anyone is interested in getting involved in playing, the contacts for the clubs can be seen below.

There are a number of events building up to the new league, including the Umbro 5's competition in Penrith in May as well as festival football throughout the summer.

If clubs or individuals require any support or further information, contact Helen Aitchison, Girls and Women's Football Development Officer, Westmorland FA on 01539 730946 or Helen.Aitchison@WestmorlandFA.com.
