A LORRY has become wedged beneath the railway bridge on Station Road, Kendal, after driving beneath it with its loading crane raised.

Traffic is queuing both ways along Shap Road and Stramongate while emergency services decide how to remove the lorry.

Police were alerted to the incident at 11.10pm by Steve Hill, of the Builders Supply Company, Kendal, which owns the vehicle.

A spokesperson for Trans Pennine Express said delays should be expected along the Lakes Line until the vehicle is removed.

They said: "We're not entirely sure how long the delays will last. We have to wait for a team of experts from Network Rail to assess damage to the bridge."
